Private drivers in Oman

Browse private drivers who already live in Oman and want a full-time job driving for one family: school runs, shopping, appointments and family trips. Profiles list driving experience, languages, whether the driver has an Omani driving licence, and availability.

Private driver is one of the household occupations in Ministerial Decision 574/2025. A family driver is employed by the family under its own Ministry of Labour licence, with the same contract, rest-day and leave rules as a housemaid.

OmanHousemaids is a listing site, not a recruitment office. This page is for private family drivers only, not taxi, delivery or company driving. You contact drivers directly and agree terms between yourselves.

Common questions

Can I hire a private driver in Oman directly?

Yes. The household holds the Ministry of Labour licence (MD 574/2025, Article 8), and no rule requires a recruitment office. If the driver already works in Oman, the new employer applies through Ministry of Labour e-service 286, and the driver can't start until it is approved. See hiring someone already in Oman.

What does the Ministry of Labour charge for a private driver?

The household work permit fee is OMR 101 per worker for one to three workers, and OMR 141 from the fourth worker (MD 602/2025). When a worker already in Oman moves to a new employer, the ministry charges OMR 5, paid by the new employer. The driver never pays any of it.

What should I check before a driver starts?

Check the driver is 21 or over with an in-date residence card, ask to see their driving licence, and make sure the driver's work licence is in your household's name before the first day. Our interview guide covers the questions to ask.

Can my driver also work for another family?

No. MD 574/2025 (Article 9) bars an employer from letting their worker work for others, and from employing a worker in an occupation other than the one on their licence. A private driver works only for the family whose licence they hold.
